What is a pillowcase?

A pillowcase protects your pillow from sweat, dirt and general wear, helping it last longer.

Carefully chosen, it is also a guarantee of comfort and style in your bedroom.

Follow our guide to carefully choose your new pillowcase, discover the different cover formats available and benefit from our care tips!

How to choose a pillowcase?

First of all, it is essential to check the dimensions of your pillow in order to choose the right pillowcase size, whether it is square, rectangular, queen, king or ergonomic.

You can then choose from a variety of materials. Cotton pillowcases are appreciated for their softness, breathability and ease of care.

100% cotton models are perfectly suited for a child’s bedroom.

If you prefer a smooth feel, it may be wise to opt for a premium pillowcase made of silk or cotton percale.

Linen, on the other hand, is a durable option that adds an elegant touch to your sleeping space. It is hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for people with sensitive or allergy-prone skin. Do you tend to sweat during the night?

Keep your head and neck cool by choosing breathable fabrics that absorb moisture and help regulate temperature.

The final element to consider is style! A wide range of colours and patterns is available, allowing you to match your bed linen with your existing décor. Plain shades, floral or animal prints, embroidery — the possibilities are endless!

Would you like to personalise your pillowcase? That’s possible thanks to our bespoke embroidery service. In just a few clicks, you can order an embroidered pillowcase featuring your initials, your child’s name or even a meaningful date.

What are the different pillowcase sizes?

Most pillowcases available on the market are designed for standard square (65x65 cm) or rectangular (50x70 cm or 50x80 cm) pillows.

For children, you can use a standard pillow and pillowcase or opt for a smaller format such as 40x40 cm.

If you have a special pillow, be sure to choose a suitable pillowcase. For ergonomic or memory foam pillows, this generally means pillowcases measuring 40x60 cm.

At Sylvie Thiriez, we also offer XL pillowcases in sizes 80x80 cm and 80x100 cm.

Can’t find the size you’re looking for? No problem — we create custom-made plain cotton pillowcases in our workshops located in Halluin, in the Hauts-de-France region. Feel free to contact our customer service team to learn more.

How to care for a pillowcase?

It all depends on the material chosen. To keep your pillowcases clean and fresh, washing every one to two weeks is recommended.

Cotton pillowcases are particularly easy to care for. They can be machine-washed at 60°C and tumble-dried, provided a moderate programme is used. They can be ironed at medium to high heat.

More care is required for other materials. Opt for washing at 40 or 60°C for pillowcases made of percale, washed percale, cotton gauze or linen. Air drying or low-temperature tumble drying is recommended for these more delicate fabrics.

Ironing cotton gauze pillowcases, a naturally crinkled fabric, is generally unnecessary. The same applies to cotton percale products, while a low temperature is usually sufficient for washed percale. If you wish to iron linen pillowcases, choose a medium heat setting. You may also opt not to iron them to preserve their naturally crinkled appearance.
