How to choose a pillowcase?

You are about to choose new pillowcases for your bedroom or your children’s room, but you’re hesitating over the style and material to choose? With nearly 40 years of experience in the creation and distribution of home linen, Sylvie Thiriez shares her expertise to help you choose the ideal pillowcase.
Which pillowcase should you choose to avoid sweating?

If you tend to feel warm during the night, avoid synthetic materials derived from plastic (polyester, polyamide, acrylic, elastane), which are generally not very breathable. Instead, opt for natural materials such as cotton, which helps regulate body temperature. A 100% cotton pillowcase is recommended for children, as it helps keep your little one’s neck at a comfortable temperature in both summer and winter. Cotton is also easy to care for: it can be machine-washed at 40 or 60°C and tumble-dried. A cotton pillowcase is therefore perfectly suited for everyday use.
You can also choose other materials that promote airflow, such as linen, a textile highly appreciated in summer, or cotton percale. A silk pillowcase is also a wise choice. This fabric is known for its excellent moisture absorption and helps prevent excessive sweating.
To keep your bed linen clean and fresh, it is recommended to wash it every one to two weeks depending on the material. Air drying is recommended for linen, silk or percale pillowcases.
Which material should you choose for a pillowcase?
A wide choice of materials is available. At Sylvie Thiriez, we work exclusively with natural, high-quality fabrics that guarantee comfort and durability.
We frequently use 57-thread-count cotton, appreciated for its softness, breathability and strength. You can also personalise your plain cotton pillowcase thanks to our bespoke embroidery service. To do so, simply click on “Add personalization” on the relevant product page and let our seamstresses know the sweet message you wish to have embroidered.
If you are looking for lightness and easy care, washed cotton pillowcases are an excellent choice. This ultra-soft fabric has a naturally crinkled appearance and requires no ironing. You may also opt for cotton gauze, a fluid fabric that dries in no time. We also offer bed linen made from stonewashed linen (or washed linen). This elegant material is equally suited to a master bedroom or a guest room. In addition to its thermoregulating properties, linen is hypoallergenic, making it ideal for people prone to allergies.
As for our premium collections, we highly recommend pillowcases made from 80-thread-count cotton percale or 71-thread-count washed percale, appreciated for their smooth and silky feel. A refreshing sensation is guaranteed when you lay your head on the pillow. A noble material par excellence, mulberry silk offers many advantages: refined appearance, soft and delicate feel, breathability and durability. It is also known for its many benefits for skin and hair. For optimal quality, choose silk pillowcases with a higher weight.
As you can see, when choosing your pillowcase, we recommend prioritising natural materials such as cotton, linen, percale or silk. It’s then up to you to select the fabric that best suits your needs and preferences. Beyond the material, be sure to choose a cover with dimensions that match your pillow, and then indulge yourself with the many styles and colours available. Plain shades, patterns, embroidery — there’s something for every taste and every interior!
