You’ll soon be an expert in choosing the perfect fitted sheet!
How to choose a quality fitted sheet?

We recommend choosing a high-quality fitted sheet. While synthetic models may sometimes be cheaper, they are generally less breathable. In addition, a low-quality fitted sheet will wear out more quickly. This is particularly noticeable at the corners (the elasticated edges), which tend to loosen faster and can affect how well the sheet stays in place.
At Sylvie Thiriez, we work with natural materials such as cotton, linen, and percale, all known for their thermoregulating properties and excellent resistance to stains and frequent washing.
What criteria should you consider when buying a fitted sheet?
When buying a new fitted sheet, the first step is to check your mattress dimensions to choose the right size. It’s simple: if you have a 140x190 cm mattress, you’ll need a 140x190 cm fitted sheet, and so on. Also remember to consider the pocket depth, especially if your mattress is particularly thin or thick. Then you can choose your preferred material: ideally, go for a natural and durable fabric.
Depending on your budget, price may influence your choice. For a smaller budget, we recommend a cotton fitted sheet, a soft, comfortable, and durable material. If your budget allows, you can opt for a higher-end product such as washed cotton, percale, or linen.
Finally, the choice of style and color is important: you can match your fitted sheet with the rest of your bedding set or follow the mix & match trend by playing with shades and patterns, while keeping a harmonious overall look.

Which material should you choose for a fitted sheet?

Among Sylvie Thiriez collections, you’ll find a wide range of cotton fitted sheets. This thermoregulating material is suitable for both adults and children, whatever the season. We also offer linen models, a lightweight and hypoallergenic material. Linen bedding is especially appreciated in spring and summer, although it is perfectly suitable all year round. It is ideal for sensitive skin and people prone to allergies.
Another option: cotton percale fitted sheets. These elegant models with a tight weave have a smooth appearance and a firm texture. They provide a light, fresh feeling when getting into bed. If you enjoy naturally crinkled fabrics, consider washed percale (71 threads). Like linen fitted sheets, percale models are hypoallergenic.
All Sylvie Thiriez fitted sheets are OEKO-TEX certified, a label guaranteeing the absence of harmful substances for both skin and the environment.

What is the difference between a fitted sheet and a flat sheet?
A fitted sheet is designed to protect your mattress from wear, moisture, and dirt. It wraps easily around the mattress thanks to its elasticated corners. A flat sheet is usually placed between the sleeper and the duvet cover or directly under a blanket.
It is sometimes used on its own in very warm weather. Some people use a flat sheet as an alternative to a fitted sheet, placing it directly on the mattress and tucking it in at the sides. However, without elastic, a flat sheet tends to move more than a fitted sheet, which can be uncomfortable.
