Which material should you choose for your sheets?

Polyester, cotton, linen, percale or washed percale: there are many materials available in the bed linen section, and it can sometimes be difficult to identify the most suitable fabric. To help you see things more clearly, the Sylvie Thiriez home linen brand shares its advice on how to choose the best material for your sheets.

While we strongly advise against synthetic textiles due to their low breathability, we can only encourage you to opt for natural and durable fibres such as cotton, linen and percale.

Why choose cotton sheets?

Cotton sheets are a safe bet: this material is soft, durable and breathable, all at a very reasonable price. Another advantage is that it is easy to care for and suitable for frequent washing. It can be machine-washed at 60°C and tumble-dried at a moderate temperature.

At Sylvie Thiriez, we offer a wide range of 57-thread-count cotton sheet models, available in a broad selection of colours. If you are replacing your child’s bedding, we recommend choosing organic, 100% cotton sheets. Thanks to its thermoregulating properties, cotton sheets help the body stay cool in summer and comfortably warm in winter. For even more softness, feel free to opt for washed cotton.

Would you like to personalise your bed sheets? This is possible thanks to the Sylvie Thiriez bespoke embroidery service. Our plain cotton models can be customised with a first name, initials, a word or a date embroidered at the top of the sheet. Be sure to consult our personalisation guide to find out more.

Why choose percale sheets?

Percale is made from cotton. This premium fabric has a smooth, silky feel that leaves a sensation of freshness on the skin. Lightweight, it is perfectly suited to spring and summer. Thanks to its excellent insulating properties, it is also ideal for cool autumn and winter nights.

If you suffer from allergies or have sensitive skin, cotton percale sheets are an excellent choice. This textile is well known for its hypoallergenic properties. At Sylvie Thiriez, we offer 80-thread-count cotton percale models available in 16 colours.

If you wish, you can also personalise your plain percale sheet with the embroidery of your choice. Simply click on “add personalisation” on the product page.

Why choose washed percale sheets?

You may also choose a washed percale model. This fabric undergoes a washing process after manufacturing, giving it a naturally crinkled appearance.

Once washed and dried, there is no need to iron washed percale sheets — you can simply fold them and store them in a cool, dry place until the next use. Sylvie Thiriez 71-thread-count washed percale sheets are available in 7 colours.

Why choose linen sheets?

As a 100% natural fibre, linen is an eco-friendly and durable choice. Linen sheets offer an elegant, aesthetic finish that works just as well in a master bedroom as in a guest room. They are ideal for warm weather thanks to their lightness and excellent air circulation, yet they are equally suitable for use throughout the rest of the year. Hypoallergenic and antibacterial, linen is a great ally for sensitive and allergy-prone skin. It dries quickly, preferably in the shade, as prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause discolouration. Due to its naturally crinkled appearance, ironing linen is optional.

Sylvie Thiriez offers a selection of stonewashed linen models, washed with lava stones, available in soft shades such as jade green or terracotta orange.
