What is the difference between cotton and cotton percale?
Cotton is a natural fibre that can be used to produce different types of fabrics, including cotton percale.
The main difference between cotton and cotton percale lies in:
- The weave: cotton is a naturally soft and breathable fabric made from cotton fibres. Cotton percale, on the other hand, is a specific type of cotton weave. It is defined by a tight and regular weave, which gives the fabric a smooth appearance and a crisp texture.
- The texture: cotton generally has a soft and comfortable feel, with some flexibility. Cotton percale has a firmer, crisper texture due to its tight weave. It can provide a fresh and lightweight feel on the skin.
- Durability: cotton is generally durable and resistant to wear, especially when made from high-quality long fibres. Cotton percale, due to its tight weave, can be even more durable and resistant to wear.
- Appearance: cotton may have a slightly wrinkled look that gives it a relaxed, natural appearance. Cotton percale, on the other hand, often looks smoother and cleaner thanks to its tight weave, giving it a more refined and formal look.
- Feel: cotton offers a soft and cosy feel, whereas cotton percale feels crisper and cooler to the touch.
