Children bath linen
Children’s bath linen
Children’s bath linen refers to a set of soft, absorbent textiles designed to dry, wrap and protect little ones after bathing. It includes several items—towels, bath sheets, bathrobes and washcloths—sold individually or as coordinated sets.
Sizes adapted for children aged 2 to 10
Bath linen is a general term covering all cotton items used during and after bathing. In addition to adult ranges, manufacturers design textiles specifically tailored for children, who are particularly sensitive to a “cocooning” effect. Sizes are carefully designed to wrap smaller bodies without excess heavy or bulky fabric. A bath towel for a child aged 2 to 6, typically measuring between 85 cm and 1.15 m in height, will be around 50 × 100 cm, while a bath sheet measuring 70 × 120 cm suits children aged 6 to 10 (up to 1.40 m tall).
The different pieces in a children’s bath set
Some items in a children’s bath set complement each other. Bath sheets and towels are mainly used to absorb and dry the body. Towels, being easier to handle, are used for legs, feet or hair. A bath sheet, being larger, wraps around the torso (chest and back) for quick and comfortable drying. The washcloth is used during bath time to gently cleanse the skin. The hooded towel, often equipped with a hood, is particularly suitable for younger children: it fully wraps the child as soon as they come out of the water and helps retain warmth. The bathrobe then extends this moment of comfort by protecting the child from the cold after drying. A bib can complement the set to protect clothing during care routines, and a toiletry bag allows easy storage and transport of all these items.
How to properly dry a child after a bath
After a warm bath, a child’s body is relaxed and their skin more sensitive to temperature changes. It is therefore important to dry them quickly to prevent them from getting cold. As soon as they leave the bath, they can be wrapped in a bath sheet, hooded towel or large towel to keep them warm. Drying usually starts with the head and hair, followed by the torso (chest, stomach, back), then arms, legs and finally feet. It is better to pat dry rather than rub: “patting dry” means gently dabbing the child’s wet skin with the towel. Avoid rough movements—simply press the fabric gently against the skin to absorb moisture. Skin folds (neck, underarms, behind the knees) require special attention, as they retain moisture and must be thoroughly dried to prevent irritation or infection.
Cotton, an ideal material for children’s bath linen
Cotton is the most commonly used material for bath linen, especially for children: it is soft, durable and highly absorbent. This natural fibre is largely composed of cellulose, which attracts and retains water. Thanks to its airy structure, cotton absorbs moisture quickly after bathing while remaining comfortable against the skin. On some product pages, you may see mentions such as “terry 550 g/m²” or “cotton 450 g/m²”. These indicate the fabric weight per square metre. The higher the number, the denser, thicker and more absorbent the textile. A 550 g/m² terry will therefore be softer and more efficient for drying than a lighter 450 g/m² cotton, which is easier to wash.
Customisable sets for children aged 3 to 8
On the Sylvie Thiriez website, you can purchase children’s bath items individually or create a complete set by adding each item to your cart according to your needs. A bath sheet, terry towel, cotton bathrobe or washcloth can be selected separately and then combined within the same collection to create a harmonious set. This flexibility allows you to adapt bath linen to the child’s age (2, 6 or 10 years old). Each item can be personalised for an additional fee: you can have a name embroidered, choose the font and thread colour. Personalised bath linen becomes unique. For a child aged 3 to 8, a towel or bath sheet embroidered with their name becomes a comforting reference and makes bath time more reassuring and enjoyable.
Sylvie Thiriez children’s bath linen collections
The Sylvie Thiriez catalogue offers a wide range of children’s bath linen: several collections allow you to create coordinated sets including bath sheets, towels, washcloths, bathrobes and hooded towels. Mainly made from cotton terry, these items provide excellent absorbency and a soft feel, ideal for drying delicate skin after bathing. Among the collections, the Zoé set stands out for its poetic universe. Against a soft background appears a peaceful owl with silver wings, evoking an imaginary sky conducive to calm after bath time. Made from 550 g/m² terry, the bath sheet (70 × 140 cm) and towel (50 × 100 cm) effectively absorb moisture and gently dry the child. A matching toiletry bag, decorated with the same owl, allows easy storage of bath accessories. Other collections complete the range. The “La balade” line, in saffron cotton, features delicate embroidered elephants and includes a bathrobe, washcloth, bib and hooded towel. The “La fête” collection, in pink tones, stands out with frog embroidery and also includes a bath sheet, bathrobe and matching accessories. Some items can be personalised with embroidery made in the Sylvie Thiriez workshop, adding a unique touch to children’s bath linen.
