How to choose the right fitted sheet size?

Between the dimensions of the fitted sheet, the duvet cover and the flat sheet, it’s easy to get confused. To avoid any mishaps when renewing your bed linen set, the home linen brand Sylvie Thiriez gives you the keys to choosing the fitted sheet size that best suits your mattress.

What fitted sheet size should I choose for my mattress?

First of all, we recommend, whenever possible, investing in a good-quality model, ideally made from a durable and resistant material such as cotton, linen or cotton percale. Entry-level fitted sheets tend to wear out more quickly, especially around the elasticated corners, known as the “depth”. If the elastic loosens, there is a strong chance that your fitted sheet will no longer stay properly in place. Choosing the right fitted sheet size is essential: a model that is too small will be difficult to fit, while a fitted sheet that is too large will move around and wrinkle during the night.

To determine the required size for your fitted sheet, nothing could be simpler: simply choose a model with the same dimensions as your mattress. If you sleep on a 160x200 cm queen size bed, you will need a 160x200 cm fitted sheet; for a 90x190 cm single mattress, you will need a 90x190 cm model, and so on. Easy, right? If in doubt, we provide an online size guide dedicated to bed linen—don’t hesitate to consult it.

If you have an adjustable bed base, we invite you to discover our selection of dedicated fitted sheets, available in 270x190, 280x200 and 290x200 cm formats. Learn more: What fitted sheet size should I choose for my mattress?

How do I measure my mattress to buy a fitted sheet?

Unsure about the dimensions of your bed? Before buying a new fitted sheet, we recommend taking a few minutes to measure your mattress. To do so, use a measuring tape and measure your mattress lengthwise and widthwise. Don’t forget to also measure the height (equivalent to the mattress thickness) to determine the fitted sheet depth. As a general rule, you should add around 5 cm to the mattress height to determine the appropriate depth.

At Sylvie Thiriez, we offer a wide range of fitted sheet sizes for adults and children: single beds of 120x190 or 120x200 cm, standard double beds of 140x190 or 140x200 cm, and queen size beds of 160x200 cm, to name just a few. Our fitted sheets feature a 30 cm depth, suitable for most standard mattresses (up to 25 cm thick).

Are there fitted sheets for extra-deep mattresses?

Some sleepers choose extra-deep mattresses with a thickness greater than 25 cm, whether for comfort or weight reasons. If this is your case, be sure to choose a fitted sheet with a depth large enough to cover your mattress properly. Our brand offers several models with a 40 cm depth, suitable for the thickest mattresses (up to 35 cm thick).
